Copies of this mural can be seen in several spots arounds Austin. This one is on the side of a Planet K at 3700 Guadalupe st.

The Mural at 3rd and Guadalupe

It used to look something like this:

Change is inevitable. This "You are original" mural has been replaced with “whispers” in the parking garage at 3rd and Guadalupe on the southwest corner just inside the parking garage.

Address: 214 Guadalupe St Austin, Tx

Now it looks something like this:

You're My Butter Half Mural, 2000 E MLK Austin Tx

You're my Butter Half Mural, 2000 E MLK Austin Tx
by John Rockwell

We started experimenting with our new Nikon 5100 camera by taking some time lapse photos of us dancing with some of Austin's Street Art.

This piece was painted by John Rockwell, who has also done work for Central Market, Sixpoint Craft Ales, and The Long Center in Austin.

”In a few short years, the Austin chapter of the United Way transitioned from a locally-misunderstood corporate outpost to an inextricable piece of the colorful local community.”

This piece is out of the way so you can dance and pose and kiss and jump and all the fun things you want to do without having to worry about cars or foot traffic like some of the murals around town!

This is a great last minute stop to take pictures with your friends.

You are only three miles from the Omlettry on Airport and 45th.

You are only two miles from Easy Tiger on 6th.

AND you can hop on Airport blvd and take that straight to the Airport!

24 Diner “Best Chicken & Waffles inside Austin City Limits.”

24 Diner “Best Chicken & Waffles inside Austin City Limits.”
One of the Kings of Austin's 24 Hour Eating Scene

Ok, so you might have noticed that “The Leaning Pear” is listed as my “Favorite Chicken and Waffles in Austin”, even though it's 30 miles from the Airport. AND it's only a seasonal thing, so you can't get them most of the year... This can be a problem when you want Chicken and Waffles.

When they aren't in season at The Leaning Pear, 24 Diner is the best place in Austin to get Chicken and Waffles. Being at 6th and Lamar means it's pretty close to everything so you won't have trouble finding it.

They offer local and organic ingredients in classic American Fare like Breakfast, Chicken, Chili, Burgers, Meatloaf and Ice Cream Milkshakes.

There are plenty of options to taste, so stop by and try it for yourself! We got great service from Christian, if you see him tell him we said hello!

Congress Avenue Kayaks. Stand Up Paddle Boarding and More!

Amber and I first went to Congress Avenue Kayaks for a volunteer day where we picked up the trash that is littering our waterways. Now we go out for fun!

Congress Avenue Kayaks is the place to go when you are feeling like Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Solo Kayaking, or Two Person Kayaking.

I recommend paddling UP river first. Then when you are tired and want to turn around to go back, you are flowing downstream so you don't have to paddle so hard!

Imagine this is you and your friends, you just paddled for half an hour and you are TIRED...now you have to paddle back upstream!

Go UPSTREAM FIRST and you can float back like a turtle!

Slow ride.....Take it easy.....

When I go out and pick up litter in the water, I like to do it on a Congress Avenue Kayak/Paddleboard.

When we were leaving, we ran into the fun folks that run
the electric scooter tour from YourBikerGang.com

Which included a picture in front of this:

Ai Weiwei, Forever Bicycles, 2014.
1,254 bicycles made into a piece of art.

I wondered...do the wheels spin?

But it's not an interactive piece, so...no...

LICK: REAL, GOOD, ICE CREAM

What IS That?

FRESH Fig Ice Cream from a LICK Class!

If you haven't been here already, check out my favorite ice cream shop in Austin!

What makes their ice cream so good? Maybe it's the local Mil-King milk they use, maybe it's the Love, all I know for sure is that it is WONDERFUL!

Let's start with the Goat cheese, Thyme, and Honey. Award Wining Local Goat Chevre that is born and raised on Pure Luck Farms off Fitzugh Rd comes together with cream, milk, honey, rosemary, and sugar to make my favorite ice cream!

My second favorite would probably be the Too Hot Chocolate. A Spicy Sweet Cinnamon Chocolate Ice Cream with Cayenne Pepper for Kick!

There are SO MANY great choices for Ice Cream you really have to come in and try it for yourself.

Like the fig and goat cheese ice cream.

We love it so much we even took a class taught by the owners and learned how to make our own!

And true story: For our wedding desserts we made 12 pints of assorted flavor ice creams with cheesecake for the wedding cake. It was PERFECT...except I forgot to bring the ice creams out of the freezer and nobody got to have any but ME! HA! oops :)

Magnolia Cafe, Sorry We're (still) OPEN! (After 40 years!)

We recently went paddle boarding at Congress Avenue Kayaks and we had a great time and left tired. Afterwards we went to a Classic Austin 24 hour Resteraunt, Magnolia Cafe!

The food is wonderful, the queso is wonderful, the people are wonderful, AND:

There is a Pterodactyl hanging from the ceiling that has been there since Ben White wasn't just a side road.

That says something about the rich history there!

I got the Jalapeno Bacon Burger with Home Fries (potato wedges)

Amber had a Bleu Cheese Burger with chips and salsa,

Mom, and Holly got the Flaco Taco: Egg Bacon cheese and Avocado Tacos

...and we got a Queso to fight over share.

If you are thinking “Kerbey Lane is Better!” Check out our date there!
Fun Fact: Magnolia Cafe and Kerbey Lane Were Originally: “The Omelettry West” in 1979 started by Ken Carpenter with Patricia and Kent Cole.

When Carpenter decided to relocate to what is now, “The Omlettry” on Burnet. He offered the space to Kent and Patricia. They ended up divorcing a year later, Patricia went on to start Kerbey Lane Cafe while Kent stayed and started Magnolia Cafe! Almost 40 years later all three are still going strong!

So it may be better, or it may just be different, you decide!
